A till and a back office in one program
Dukan POS is built for a shop with a counter. Products, stock, staff and every sale live on a server in your own shop, and each till reaches that server over your own network.
There is no second program to open. The catalog, deliveries, staff, tax rates, reports and backups all sit behind a passcode in the same terminal your cashiers sell from.
The three parts
- The store server runs on one PC in your shop and is the shop's source of truth. It holds the catalog, the real stock numbers and every sale, and it works out every price.
- The till is what a cashier uses. It shows the catalog, builds the cart, takes the payment and prints the receipt.
- The back office is a hidden area inside the till, opened with a manager PIN.
Because the server does the pricing, the receipt, the sale and the stock can never disagree with each other.
Do I need an online Dukan store?
No. Dukan POS works entirely on its own, and everything is managed inside the till.
If you also run a Dukan online store, switch sync on and the two stay in step: your catalog and stock match behind the counter and online, and counter sales appear in your store-wide reporting.
Why the server sits in your shop
A shop has to keep selling when the internet does not. Sales are committed on the shop's own server, three metres away, so a cashier never waits on a connection to finish a sale.
It also settles the two-cashier problem outright. Every till writes to the same server, so two cashiers can never both sell the last one of something.
What hardware do I need
An ordinary Windows 10 or 11 PC for the server, and an ordinary Windows PC for each till. No special point-of-sale hardware.
At the counter you also need:
- a USB barcode scanner — any keyboard-wedge model, no driver required;
- a 58 or 80 mm thermal receipt printer, connected by USB, network or serial;
- your bank's own card terminal, which stays separate from the till.
A UPS on the server PC is worth more than any other upgrade you can buy.
How many tills
One shop, one server, as many tills as you need. A single-till shop runs the server on the till's own PC; from two tills upwards the server usually gets a small PC of its own that nobody sits at.
Every till shares the same catalog, the same stock and the same day's takings.
The card terminal stays separate
You take the card payment on your bank's terminal, then record that amount on the till, with the last four digits and the authorisation code if you want them for reconciliation. Dukan POS never touches card data.
Where to go next
- Install and set up — the server, the tills, the printer and the scanner.
- Selling at the counter — the day-to-day flow.
- Backups and troubleshooting — what to do when something is not right.
